Laboratory for Computational Physiology

The Laboratory for Computational Physiology (LCP), under the direction of Professor Roger Mark, conducts research aimed at improving health care through the generation of new knowledge, monitoring technology and clinical decision support by applying physiological signal processing, data science and machine learning technology to large collections of critical care data. The laboratory’s investigators include clinicians, computer and data scientists, electrical engineers, and biostatisticians. Current LCP research comprises two major projects, Critical Care Informatics and PhysioNet.

Bioinstrumentation and Signal Processing Laboratory (KIRON), EIA University, Colombia

The Bioinstrumentation and Signal Processing Laboratory is part of the Biomedical Engineering Department at EIA University in Medellin, Colombia. The group is focused on research and development activities over a wide range of biomedical applications covering fields as cardiovascular, respiratory, bio-sensing, mental health and well-being among others. The lab specializes in instrumentation for physiological signal acquisition, embedded processing, communication protocols, robust signal processing algorithms and machine learning. Through his research and development projects KIRON seeks to provide technological solutions and new knowledge to improve diagnosis, monitoring, treatment and prevention of diseases.

Department of Medicine, University of Thessaly, Greece

The University of Thessaly (UTH) is located in the area of Thessaly in Central Greece with campuses in the cities of Volos, Larissa, Trikala and Karditsa. Despite its young age of about 40 years old, it demonstrates a remarkable presence in the academic ranking of universities. Most of its Faculties, as well as the University as a whole, have been positively evaluated by international visiting Committees, based on the considerable research and scientific performance of the academic staff and the high quality teaching programmes. The Campus of the Faculty of Medicine comprises auditoriums, lecture halls and workshops, laboratories, a library, the Secretariat and offices of the academic staff members. The Department of Medicine of the University of Thessaly and its University Hospital Department, has steadily participate in pilot and large scale e-health regional services and national and international projects, in local partnerships of municipal entities, hospitals, SMEs, patients' organisations and research institutions on local, national and international level. The Department of Medicine of the University of Thessaly in collaboration with the Department of Medicine of the University of Athens, is participating in real world data analytics of the National e-prescription system of Greece.

Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI), Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Uganda

Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI), Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Uganda. MUST is the second largest public University in Uganda whose aim is to provide quality and relevant education at national and international level with particular emphasis on Science and Technology and its application to community development. Through the Faculty of Computing and Informatics, MUST coordinates the MIT-SANA course. The course was launched at MUST in 2012 starting with 2 students under the coordination of Mr. Kimera Richard. The course is now one of the key research activities aimed at emphasizing, strengthening and uplifting research, innovation, mentorship and collaboration opportunities at MUST, in the areas of computing and health. FCI collaborates with the Faculty of medicine to carry out research in health informatics. The Faculty of medicine follows a Community Based Medical Education (CBME) as its underlying Philosophy. Right from the start, students are exposed to concepts about community problems which is a focus in the student training.

National Telehealth Center, National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines Manila

The National Telehealth Center (NTHC) is one of 12 institutes/centers of the University of the Philippines - National Institutes of Health in Manila, Philippines. Founded in 1998, the NTHC's vision is to be the recognized authority in transformative digital health research and development in the Philippines and Southeast Asia. Under the direction of Dr. Raymond Francis Sarmiento, its mission is to be a centre of excellence in digital health research through innovative, interdisciplinary, and translational methods towards more efficient health care systems. We develop, design, and implement health information systems in the Philippines, as well as conduct monitoring and evaluation projects of digital health solutions. The NTHC is a proud and active member of the Asia eHealth Information Network (AeHIN). It also represents the academe in several national eHealth experts' groups, foremost of which is the Philippine National eHealth Technical Working Group, which provides directions and recommends eHealth strategies to the Philippine National eHealth Steering Committee for nationwide implementation.
